Fashion & Style- What to Expect for 2012!

¨ Color:

Being a fashion Miss. Smarty-Pants and having studied the arts of hues and fashion, I’d like to announce that the new color for 2012 is Tangerine. Yes, yes indeed. For 2011 we had a wonderful shade of turquoise, and I have to say that it was successful. It made its rounds from the high fashion shows to the red carpet. We saw it all over the streets, from L.A to New York. Tangerine is definitely the new turquoise, and it shall be proven before our eyes.

¨ Textures:

As for textures, we saw a lot of fur and lace in 2011. Maybe it’s not right for me to say, but it’s getting kind of boring. What we hope to see throughout this upcoming year is something both fantastic, but somewhat similar. For spring, we’ll have soft cottons that’ll be just right for those fresh, but chilly days outside and lots of bright colors. Lace will continue to be popular in the hot months of summer, but the colors of garments will fade. Unexpectedly, pastels will be the new Brights. In fall and winter there’ll be awesome crochets, popular and yet stunningly amazing. Leather, a must have, will continue to be successful in 2012 too. Specially navy and gray-toned motorcycle-style jackets.

¨ Short vs. Long:

Tiny skirts, super short dresses, and short-shorts are so last decade! We’ve seen length increase in these clothing pieces this year, and they’ll go even further. Maxi skirts and dresses will be among the most popular items, which will sell drastically and be overly-used by fashion icons both on and off the red carpet. Jean shorts will increase in length also, but not much. We still want to keep it fresh and nice in summer, right? But a long, breezy skirt or dress is a must have for those hot evenings out. You want to leave a lot to the imagination, because the longer, the sexier.

¨ Tight vs. Loose:

Jeans are so overrated. We should want jeans to be all about comfort and confidence. Well, it hasn’t shown. Instead of those pathetic super wide-legged jeans OR ultra-skinny jeans, boot-cut jeans will be the new IT. Yes ladies, it is all about comfort. Who wants to feel squished up and almost naked in a pair of skinny jeans, or even worse. Who wants to feel fat in wide-legged jeans? It looks like you raided either your teenager’s or your mother’s closet. And that isn’t necessarily a good thing.

¨ Hairstyles:

How many of you feel like an outsider just because of Rhianna and Nicki? Yes, colorful rainbows should be left behind. We are now in the year where we should feel glamorous and cute, not think that we belong in a circus! Animal-print wigs are so out, and so is untamable firing and fried hair. If you truly love your hair, be like a hippie and let it flow naturally. Now, I’m not telling you to go to the extremes and not use shampoo. Definitely do get a cut. Long and healthy hair is a must-have. Darker shades of Brown will be ideal for this year, accordingly to the color of the year, tangerine. So, please people. Stop the Skunk trend (Blonde & Black/Brown). Going the two-toned way is plainly screaming ‘Give me attention’, in the wrongest of the ways. Brunettes, this is your year!
