DRUGFREEAZ.ORG 2011 Mall Walk to Honor 10th Anniversary of 9/11 with Moment of Silence

On Saturday, September 10 at 9 a.m., Valley residents will be coming in from the outdoors to avoid the heat and support a great cause, DrugFreeAZ.org’s second Mall Walk at Scottsdale Fashion Square. Billed as the only indoor mall walk in Arizona, this fundraiser is being held on the 10th anniversary weekend of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and as such will be honoring this time in history with a moment of silence.

“This unique event will be a great way for families to get connected to support and learn about the importance of preventing youth drug use,Ò´ said Leslie Bloom, CEO of www.DrugFreeAZ.org. “Because of its proximity to the 10th anniversary, we also want to pay tribute to those that lost their lives on that fateful day 10 years ago.”

This year’s Mall Walk has more than tripled in size with funds raised, teams of walkers and community partners, including GoDaddy.com who will be leading the way as the presenting sponsor. Co-Chaired by Christine Jones, executive vice president, general counsel & corporate secretary for GoDaddy.com and Steve Cobb, executive director of Arizona Fall League have both teamed up to create a great event. “I’m thrilled to be involved with such an important organization in our community, said Cobb. “We help save lives every day.”

With upwards of 600 walkers, Mall Walk 2011 will feature live performances from Arizona Broadway Theater, appearances from Howler of the Phoenix Coyotes, D. Baxter of the Arizona Diamondbacks and POSA with the Police Officers of Scottsdale Association.

ABC15 news anchor Katie Raml will be pulling double duty as she leads her own team and serves as honorary chair for the entire event. Along with ABC15, other key supporters of Mall Walk 2011 include: BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona, Arizona Fall League, Police Officers of Scottsdale Association, Scottsdale Healthcare, Scottsdale Insurance Company, Snell & Wilmer, Waste Management and 98.7 The Peak.
