Darksiders – Review

So i bought this game from the steam Christmas sale for £5 and finally got around to playing it, my reviews are pretty crude by the way.

Wow, this is the first game I’ve really enjoyed and couldn’t stop playing since Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game drops you straight into combat, legions of enemy’s charging at you and ending with an easy boss battle. After this your pulled out of the action, stripped of your powers and the story line is explained to you, which i will leave out.

After this the game finally starts for real, the combat feels so satisfying, which is really lacking in most games, enemy’s have just the right amounts of health and the look of them is brilliant. The puzzle’s and platforming elements are challenging enough to give a feel of accomplishment, but are not frustratingly difficult and can be passed with relative ease, after several segments of puzzles and combat, each stage ends with a boss battle.

The boss battles, oh god the boss battles. As with most games of this style, they can be beaten with quick light attacks and the occasional roll, despite the relative simplicity of the boss battles, the boss’s are still so amazingly well designed, within 10minutes of the game i was fighting a HUGE demon half submerged in lava, followed by pulsating mass of tortured souls and other fantastic creatures.

Overall, Darksiders is one of the rare games that i cant seem to stop playing, the theme of heaven and hell is overused, the platforming, puzzles and combat are somewhat shallow, and yet still this game is so fun, and for £5, it was an absolute bargain.
