Betsey Johnson Celebrates 69th Birthday With New Fragrance

At 69, Betsey Johnson is still going strong. Her new fragrance, Too Too will be available in Sephora starting fall 2011. Everything about this perfume smacks of the iconic Betsey Johnson. The fragrance, the bottle and the launch event were all perfectly executed with the bright boisterous flair of a woman unable to curb her enthusiasm! She is just too too cool.

Happy Birthday Betsey!
Betsey Johnson was born August 10, 1942 making her 69 this year. “I’m not happy about turning 69 this summer, but it’s fine.” says Betsey, “At least it’s a funny number.”

The legendary designer has continued to find fun throughout her life, as showcased by her outrageous outfits and fabulously colorful line of dance-inspired clothes. She once pinpointed her style as a formula: “Take a leotard and add a skirt.”

When asked if making a perfume was harder than a pink dress Johnson said, “If somebody says just make it you, do what you want, then it’s a piece of cake!”

Too Too Fragrance
Betsey Johnson designed her perfume for the hip and fashionable. The flirty sweetness is exactly what you would expect from Betsey Johnson. The scent includes passion fruit, mandarins, ginger and strawberry leaves over a layer of warm musk and vanilla. There is also room for notes of patchouli and sandalwood. Vivid, strong and feminine, just like Betsey.

Too Too bottle
The bottle alone is worth a purchase. Beautifully designed with a pink and black ballet dress, Betsey Johnson was inspired both by her former years as a ballerina and her collection of vintage Schiapparelli bottles. The fragrance is available in quantities of 50 and 100 ml. Companion products include body lotion and a mini-roller ball version.

Too Too Event
The grande dame of punk fashion, Betsey Johnson held a launch party for Too Too, Girls Just Want to Have Fun Beauty Brunch. It was complete with esteemed dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet Company and the Stephen Petronio Company. The morning brunch included hipster DJ’s, a dance performance, champagne, cupcakes and plush pink couches.

Already a recipient of the National Arts Club Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement in Fashion, Betsey Johnson continues to press on. She truly loves what she does, and it shows.

“Making clothes involves what I like, color, pattern, shape and movement. I like the everyday process and the people, the pressure, the surprise of seeing the work come alive walking and dancing around on strangers. Like red lipstick on the mouth, my products wake up and brighten and bring the wearer to life, drawing attention to her beauty and specialness, her moods and movements, her dreams and fantasies.”

Thank you Betsey Johnson for reminding us fashion is fun!
