A Gift for Mom

He knew his mom and what she liked
So he worked at her present for days,
He cut and he glued and he glittered it all
So it would look pretty always.
The picture was flowers all pretty and bright
under a sky of clear blue,
He wrote a short note with letters of red
Just saying, “Mom, I Love You!”
She noticed each flower was smiling
and her favorite colors were all there,
He knew her well, that wonderful child
and drew her picture with care.
Her picture was full of her favorite things
showing her all that he knew
Of her life and of her loves so the scene was much more
than simply a picture he drew.
She never had wealth and struggled sometimes
but she made a home for her son,
And with just one little gift he lifted her heart
to make her feel like the wealthiest one.
