When it Makes Sense to Choose the Higher Insurance Quote

Many things in your life are insured: your vehicles, recreational vehicles, your home, life and health. Insurance can be very expensive, depending on the type of coverage you choose. Many people think that they should choose the cheapest insurance, but you may be costing yourself more money in the long run.

An insurance quote takes several things into consideration, including what you are insuring and your lifestyle. If you have a sports car, the insurance will be higher than if you are insuring a sedan. If you are a smoker, life and health insurance are higher than if you are not a smoker. Your age also determines the cost of the policy.

When choosing insurance for anything, shop around. Obtain at least three quotes. Once you get the quotes, compare the coverage for each insurance. If you are insuring a sports car, you might want to choose insurance with a higher quote, as the insurance may cover more than an insurance with a lower quote. Aside from the type of vehicle and your age, an insurance with a higher quote may be because of the level of accident or comprehensive insurance coverages. While you may not require comprehensive insurance for an older sedan, and it would not make sense to purchase expensive insurance for a vehicle that is older than 10 years old, if you have an expensive sports car, you should probably opt for the more expensive insurance, since some sports cars or specialty vehicles are more expensive to repair.

As for life and health insurance, base your choice on your health. If you have or foresee health problems, you should opt for a more expensive insurance policy, which means you will have a higher insurance quote. For example, if your family has a history of heart disease, even though you may be young, you should opt for insurance that will cover an extended hospital stay – thus a higher insurance quote.

For recreational vehicles, you may want to choose insurance with a higher quote if the vehicle is a large investment, such as a motor home. If you live in or travel in an area that gets high wind storms – hurricanes or tornadoes – you should choose the higher insurance quote. For a mid-priced four-wheeler or other ATV vehicle, you may want minimum insurance – enough to cover you if you injure someone with your vehicle. These vehicles are not expensive to repair, especially if you know how to repair them yourself. If you don’t know how to repair these vehicles yourself, you may want to choose a higher-priced insurance, but still don’t need to go crazy on the policy.

Motorcycles are another investment where you might want to choose a higher insurance quote, especially if you ride with a passenger. You also need to take into consideration whether the motorcycle will increase in value over the years, such as some American-made bikes. If the bike picks up value as it ages, you should choose the higher insurance quote.
