Vegetarians unite. If you are the odd one out at your Thanksgiving gathering, know that you are in good company. The following celebrities will not be inviting turkeys to their table this Thanksgiving. In fact, these compassionate celebrities have made it a point to join up with PETA to make their stand for the ethical treatment of animals, which ultimately means, giving the animals something to be thankful for this holiday season.

Alicia Silverstone, Clueless actress turned cookbook author, maintains her website, “The Kind Life,” to share her thoughts on life, style and health encompassing her views on the vegan lifestyle. Alicia also shares delicious recipes for meat-free specialties that graced her Thanksgiving table, such as pecan roasted seitan and wild rice cornbread stuffing from her book, also named “The Kind Life.” This Thanksgiving Alicia also has something extra special to give thanks for, her first child, Bear Blu Jarecki, was born in May.

As the White Queen in Tim Burton’s 2010 rendition of “Alice in Wonderland,” Anne Hathaway declared said she believed six impossible things before breakfast. Apparently being a vegan with a major sweet tooth is one of them, but she keeps it real by visiting up her favorite vegan bakeries, New York’s BabyCakes. I would imagine she is bringing one, or several, of their amazing vegan apple pies to Thanksgiving dinner.

Funny lady Ellen DeGeneres is a dedicated vegan who will definitely not be gobbling anything this Thanksgiving that used to gobble! Check her “Go Vegan with Ellen” page to find healthy recipes and inspiration, or discover ways to make the transition. A successful career including her popular daytime talk show is not enough for DeGeneres though, she, along with Portia DeRossi are behind a new vegan restaurant set to open in the San Fernando Valley.

Turkey-free Thanksgivings are not just for the ladies. Woody Harrelson may be the male “face” of a vegan lifestyle, celebrities Milo Ventimiglia and Joaquin Phoenix will also be celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday sans meat.

Joaquin Phoenix is a vegan actor who isn’t simply playing a role when he appeared on a clever PETA ad. In the ad created by the director of Wedding Crashers, David Dobkin, Phoenix says, “Holidays can be murder on turkeys. Let’s make this one for the birds.”

Vegetarian Milo Ventimiglia originally gained attention as teen lust object, Jess Mariano on The Gilmore Girls, but has since shot up in celebrity status in one the most successful shows, Heroes. This lifelong vegetarian will not even be tempted to taste-test a turkey, will you?
