Pennies, as we all know, have very little monetary use in our society. But the little copper discs still have value and can be used creatively in any of these six uses for pennies.
Pennies Make Fresh Flowers Last Longer
Drop a few pennies in the bottom of a vase before adding fresh cut flowers and the flowers will last longer. The copper in the pennies will prevent fungus from growing in the water and on the flower stems. The pennies must be minted before 1982 to work, as the post 1982 pennies do not contain enough copper to prevent fungus growth.
A Screwdriver in a Pinch
Where’s a screwdriver when you need it? In your pocket, that is if you have a penny inside the pocket. The width of the penny fits perfectly into most screw slots and will tighten up a loose screw anywhere, anytime.
Smooth and Still Draperies
If you have wrinkled or fly-away draperies, a few pennies will solve either problem. Slip a few pennies inside the bottom hem of the draperies to keep them hanging smooth and prevent them from moving around with any breeze which is blowing in the room. The stitches on the drapery hems should be wide enough to allow you to slip the pennies inside without having to open up the hem. The pennies are just enough weight to inconspicuously weigh down the drapes to smooth them from top to bottom and to keep them from blowing around.
Balance a Wobbly Table
Get seated at a wobbly restaurant table (or maybe have a wobbly table at home)? Stop the wobble with a penny. Place a penny under the short table leg to bring balance to the wobbly table.
Use Pennies as Game Pieces
Pennies are just the right size to use as replacement pieces for missing board game tokens. In addition to making good replacement parts for games, games can be played with pennies. ‘Pitching pennies’ and ‘guess which hand’ are two games that come to mind that can be played with nothing more than pennies.
