Review of Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars for a Healthy Choice

A healthy diet is so important for good health, and when it comes to the snacks we feed our one year old baby, I am a very picky and discerning shopper. We’ve been feeding our baby Earth’s Best jar baby food for months now, and have just started to explore the Earth’s Best line of snack bars.

Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars are, in my opinion, a healthy snack. The box contains eight individually wrapped snack bars. These are small, measuring approximately 3 1/2″ long, 1 1/4″ wide and 1/4″ thick. They are the perfect size for a toddler’s small hands.

The box claims that Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars are an “excellent source of calcium, iron & zinc”, that they are made with organic wheat flour and contain no trans fat. Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars remind me of Nutri Grain Bars, except they are much smaller in size.

Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars are a healthy treat for a baby or toddler, but be aware these will make quite a mess. When my granddaughter eats them I always place her in her highchair first because the bars get mushy and leave a mess all over her hands and the highchair tray.

According to the back of the box, Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars are made with organic ingredients and are made without any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. They do not contain any hydrogenated oils, which is something I always look for in a healthy snack.

One thing that surprised me was the fact that Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars don’t seem to be 100% organic. The Earth’s Best jar style baby foods that we have been purchasing contain completely organic ingredients, so we assumed these snack bars did as well. It was our error in making such an assumption, and the company does not make this claim. In fact, the front of the box states “Made with organic wheat flour”.

The ingredients include many that are organic, but not every ingredient (such as strawberries, apple powder, fruit juice concentrates, locust bean gum, and red cabbage) is listed as organic. Today I called the company go clarify this fact and the representative told me Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars are not a certified organic food. This is very disappointing to me as a consumer, and I personally find the claim on the back of the box a bit misleading. It reads “Check out the Earth’s Best difference … organic ingredients grown in soil without potentially harmful pesticides”.

To clarify, the box does not claim that this is a USDA certified organic product. Since Earth’s Best uses organic strawberries in their 3rd foods baby food I don’t understand why they don’t also use organic strawberries in these snack bars. This experience has enlightened me, and I will now scrutinize future purchases.

Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars come in strawberry and apple flavors, but we have only been able to find the strawberry flavor in stores in our area. This is a snack my granddaughter thoroughly enjoys, but it is messy and not 100% organic. For these reasons I would only give Earth’s Best Sunny Days Snack Bars a four out of five star rating.
