Review: Arby’s Ultimate Angus Philly Sandwich

My wife got done early with work today and, since she had some extra time, she decided to stop by my office with a surprise lunch. Since she was up by Arby’s, she stopped off there for the food and bought us each their new Ultimate Angus Philly Sandwich.

I have seen advertisements for these sandwiches in the past (either that or someone told me about them) and, being a person who usually likes Philly Cheese Steak Subs, I was definitely interested in trying them. So, when my wife brought them, I was definitely looking forward to eating one. However, after trying my sandwich, I have to be honest and say I wasn’t as impressed with it as I thought I would be.

There were some things I did like about this particular Arby’s sandwich. First, there was plenty of meat on it; enough where it was overflowing from the bun. And, the bun itself was better than I was expecting from a fast food place; soft enough where I would think it was freshly made.

As far as taste goes, I did like the Angus beef. It had a decent flavor to it that seemed to be of a much higher quality than what I would expect from some of the sub shops here in town. And, as I said before, there was plenty of it. In fact there was so much beef inside this sandwich, I couldn’t finish it. I had to send half of it home with my wife so I could have it later.

Ironically, my biggest complaint about this sandwich is it had a bit too much beef inside it. The beef was great. But, I like sandwiches with a bunch of extras like green peppers and, of course, cheese. And, even though this sandwich had those things, they were in a very small quantity. For example, I was lucky to get a pepper in one out of every four bites and there was even less cheese. I didn’t have sauce on mine (I never liked trying things with mystery sauces) but my wife had it on hers and, again, there wasn’t that much.

Overall, I think Arby’s has a good idea when it comes to these sandwiches and I do like them better than the Philly subs I can buy at some of the other restaurants here in town. I just hope the company eventually improves them a bit by adding more peppers and cheese.
