When the Packers entered their bye week this past weekend, they were the NFL’s only remaining undefeated team. Sometimes, having that bye week is a good thing because it allows a team to recover a bit and work on any weaknesses. However, there’s also the risk of losing some of their momentum and, in the case of Green Bay, suffering their first loss.
I, however, don’t see that happening to the Packers. Green Bay has won 4 of its last 5 games held after their bye week and I see them improving to 5 of 6 against the San Diego Chargers this week.
There are a number of reasons for that. First, while there’s a chance the Packers will come out of the gate a bit rusty, I think they have the talent (especially on offense) to overcome that and still put plenty of points on the board against a team that they’ve had an extra week to prepare for while the Chargers are facing the Packers with a shorter week after facing a division rival on Monday night.
Not to mention, even though San Diego has a winning record, unlike the Packers, they have yet to establish themselves as an elite NFL team by beating quality opponents. Three of their four wins were against teams with a combined 4-18 record. Counting the Kansas City Chiefs (who they played Monday and in Week 3), they are 1-3 against teams with a record above .500.
I think this game will result in the Chargers being outgunned throughout. The Packers will score early and often and the game will be over long before the final whistle.
Packers 35 – Chargers 14
