Packers at Falcons: Final Thoughts

Adversity is sometimes needed for things to finally gel on a team. If anything, this might have been the game that finally got the defense performing at the level they were expected to. If they can carry their second half success into the rest of the season, the Packers will be almost impossible to beat.

I think part of the reason the Packers had so much trouble early on against the run is they lack confidence in their linebackers when it comes to pass coverage. Instead of having a linebacker on Tony Gonzalez, they preferred to have Charles Woodson in there. Woodson is a great player but he’s going to have problems stopping a 244-pound running back like Michael Turner.

I love the depth on the Packers’ defensive line. Derek Sherrod and Marshall Newhouse had their struggles but, overall, held their own just enough to let Aaron Rodgers do his thing. That will allow the Packers to let Chad Clifton have a little more time off to recover from his hamstring injury if needed because they will only get better.

Way to show up this week James Jones. Rodgers always says he throws the ball to the open guy. And, you obviously were getting open.

Jermichael Finley redeemed himself a little bit with some great catches but those drops will be what everyone talks about this week. He’s supposed to be an elite tight end. Elite players don’t drop touchdown passes.

Kicker Mason Crosby is quietly having a great season. After this game, he’s 9 of 9 on field goals.

Can someone please tell Randall Cobb it’s OK to take a knee in the end zone on occasion on kickoff returns? Yes, he has had some decent returns in the past. But, he’s not doing the team many favors when he isn’t getting the ball to the 20.

Am I the only one who thinks John Abraham looks a lot like Mr. T?
