NFL Week 10 Rapid Thoughts – Zany 2011 Season Continues with Wild Week 10

Okay NFL fans and gridiron gamblers, I am not a happy camper after suffering through an uninspiring betting weekend heading into tonight’s Monday night affair, thanks to the continuing league-wide theme of ‘inconsistency’ this season.

Making this even worse for me personally is the fact that the outcomes of several games turned out just the way I expected, but didn’t play them.

Outside out my Top Play winner with Pittsburgh beating the Bengals to cash in and

Oakland coming through for me on Thursday night against the underachieving Chargers, several teams played just like I expected this past weekend.

I love Wade Phillips and I expected him to make Houston’s defense much better – and he has – almost immediately. The Texans can put up 30 points on any team in the league – and now are apparently intent on stopping the opposition from scoring as well. Houston absolutely dominated Tampa Bay on both sides of the ball in Sunday’s 37-9 rout.

The Miami Dolphins pounded the listless Washington Redskins just like I thought they would. Maybe now Skins’ head coach Mike Shanahan actually knows, (like football fans everywhere, duh) that Rex Grossman and John Beck really are career backups at best – if that.

I suspected the mediocre Jacksonville Jaguars would spank the lowly Indianapolis Colts – and sure enough – they did.

Say what you like about Tim Tebow, but the unconventional NFL quarterback led his Denver Broncos to a solid win over the offensively-challenged Kansas City Chiefs, while completing just two passes.

Of course, there was another rash of wild outcomes that threw everyone involved for an absolute loop, whether it was the players themselves, their fans, or betting backers.

While many people may have had the New England Patriots upsetting the New York Jets on Sunday night, I don’t think many people saw a 37-16 rout coming from either team in this contest.

I liked the Chicago Bears heading into their Week 10 home date against Detroit, but I won’t lie, I certainly didn’t see a 37-13 blowout coming!

After seeing the Baltimore Ravens beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in a thriller a week ago, most fans and pro football betting analysts (like me) thought there was no way the Ravens could lose to the mediocre Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Ravens did manage to lose in a game they never led, upsetting many bettors’ respective apple carts.

Something told me the Tennessee Titans were going to show up against Cam Newton and the young Carolina Panthers and sure enough they did. Still, the Titans aren’t going anywhere in the crowded AFC and should probably start getting Jake Locker ready to play, especially seeing how many rookie signal-callers are having success… but hey, that’s just me.

There’s now way the wildly inconsistent Philadelphia Eagles could lose to the lowly Arizona Cardinals following their Week 9 collapse against Chicago right? Uh, wrong. The Cards grounded the Eagles in a matchup between two flightless teams!

Some of my other observations from Sunday’s games…

The Cincinnati Bengals are absolutely for real and gave the Pittsburgh Steelers all they could handle in their narrow 24-17 loss on Sunday.

The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons are pretty much mirror images of one another with their fine offenses – and suspect defenses.

The San Diego Chargers are an absolute disgrace for a team with so much talent on its roster.

The St. Louis Rams and Cleveland Browns are both absolutely clueless ballclubs.

Last but not least, let me say that, maybe everyone jumped the gun in analyzing the formerly explosive Buffalo Bills, but I still don’t have a lot of belief that the Dallas Cowboys are for real?
