Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3?

If you’re a gamer, you have heard of Battlefield and Call of Duty. Who am I kidding? Non-gamers have heard of it. It may be one of the biggest rivalry’s in video game history. Now is such a rivalry warranted? Is it even necessary? My humble opinion says “no.” They are both great games, and very different. I would suggest buying both, but there is where the problem lies. Most people can’t afford $120 dollars to put into two games with not even a month apart in release dates. So you will have to pick one. The following article will outline the differences in the two games to help you pick which one is right for you. Graphics:

This really comes down to one question: “Are you a PC gamer?”

If the answer is no, then I would suggest not even looking into the difference, as they will be so little, it really won’t matter.

If the answer is yes, then Battlefield 3 is the absolute winner. The fact of the matter, is that Xbox 360 and PS3 are reaching the end of there lifespan, and many game designers are realizing this, and are beginning to design their games specifically for the PC, and merely dumb down the graphics for the consoles. Battlefield 3 is a prime example of this.

Gameplay:

This is the main factor that plays into why I believe both games are so different, that they should both be bought. Yes, they are both first person shooters. Yes, they are both modern military games, but that is there only similarities.

Modern Warfare 3 is a purely reaction based game. The first to react will get the kill. You can be a one man team, and completely dominate. It leaves way for a “hero” so to speak. The maps are small (though there is talk that the maps will be a little bigger), and the battles are very in your face, very fast paced, run and gun type battles. It’s this type of battle that lead the way to quick scoping (zooming in on a sniper and immediately firing and zooming back out of the scope). They don’t leave much room for relaxing, unless you’re an avid camper (they try to stop this with many ways, such as map design).

Battlefield 3, on the other hand, is purely a tactical, team based shooter. When asked about the difference, many people say: “you can actually snipe,” which is true, because Battlefield’s maps are huge. I mean enormous. You can snipe someone from so far off that they can’t even see you without a scope, much less actually shoot you. The battles are long, and they consist of tanks, helicopters, and pretty much anything else you can find. There is also destructive environments. Pretty much, if you can see it, you can destroy it.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, it all boils down to whether you want a fast paced shooter, or a tactical, more realistic shooter. If you want realism, go with Battlefield, but if you want that in your face, adrenaline pumping game, Modern Warfare 3 is where you will go.
