Make Valentine Goodie Bags to Delight Children

Valentine’s Days is a time when everyone’s thoughts turn to love and romance (and chocolate!). Though most people mainly think of their spouse or significant other on this holiday, I like to include my children in the equation. Every Valentine’s Day since my oldest child was a baby, I have made up little goodie bags for the kids.

In my goodie bags, I include such items as a small box of candy (if age appropriate), usually with a heart-shaped box or other box with a special theme. There are some very cute little candy boxes with sports themes for boys and girly themes for the girls. It’s also easy to find popular characters gracing the fronts of these little candy boxes, which will thrill your little ones.

I also include small, age appropriate items in the goodie bags. Small stuffed animals, Valentine pencils and erasers and Valentine-themed toys are all great ideas. Walgreens drug stores usually have a great display of Valentine goodies, along with the Valentine sacks to place your treasures. These are paper sack type bags with Valentine prints on them, usually selling at the price of four for a dollar. Walgreens is also a great place to find such items as tiny Valentine puzzles and sticker packets. All of these items make great little gifts that fit right in the bags.

I also make a trip to a local craft and hobby type store such as Hobby Lobby, Michaels or JoAnn. These are great places to find little trinkets and other goodies to fill your bags, all around the cost of a dollar. You might find a pair of Valentine socks or some great little craft kits for making bracelets or something of that nature.

I fill all the little goodie bags and then leave them sitting at the breakfast table when the kids wake up on Valentine’s Day. There they find their goodie bag and a card waiting for them, which sets the tone for a fun and pleasant day. It’s always nice to be remembered on Valentine’s Day.

Consider making your own Valentine goodie bags this year and starting this tradition with your own children.
