Make a Valentine’s Day Snow Globe

Snow globes are so much fun to make, enjoy and give. Christmas doesn’t have to be the only winter holiday that gets in on snow globe making. A handmade Valentine’s Day snow globe can say, “I love you” with every shake. With a handful of materials and a few simple steps, you can make a DIY snow globe. Even when the weather outside is frightful, a homemade snow globe can warm the heart.

Materials:

A repurposed jar candle jar or other jar

Valentine’s Day stickers

A hot glue gun, recommended

Glitter

Small Valentine’s Day trinket or toys

Water

Optional:

Glycerin or baby oil

We were inspired by reusing a jar candle jar to make a snow globe.

We received several small scented jar candles for Christmas and we really enjoyed using them. As they burned all the way to the bottom, I started thinking? How could reuse this jar?

When there was just the slightest bit of wax left in the bottom, I took it outside with a kettle of boiling water to rinse it out. I don’t think wax, even the slightest bit, down the sink is a good idea at all. The jar rinsed clean easily and completely.

We love snow globes. We’ve made them from kits but with this perfect little jar I wondered, could we make a snow globe? The answer was yes. We chose a Valentine’s Day theme. Of course you can also purchase similar jars for around a dollar from craft stores to get started if you don’t have a burned out jar candle on hand.

Steps:

Hot glue a Valentine’s Day trinket such a heart or teddy bear into the bottom of the jar and allow it to dry completely. Depending on the jar you’re using you may want to glue the trinket onto the jar lid if it will sit flat and construct the snow globe upside down. A jar candle jar lid is not flat so it would not stand on end.

Now add water and sprinkle in glitter. Some crafters like to use glycerin or baby oil as the medium because the glitter will sink more slowly.

The next step is to hot glue the lid onto to jar to close it permanently. You can add stickers to the outside of the jar for even more Valentine’s Day bling. We chose bejeweled hearts.

For a gift, tie a ribbon and gift card around the top for that special finishing touch.

This year consider thinking outside the (candy) box and “shake” things up a bit with a fun calorie free Valentine’s Day gift.
