Jelly from “Born to Dance” Breaks Out at “Evolution of Curves Event”

The “Evolution of Curves Event” held on September 22, 2011 was a great success. Held at the unique and exquisite Defoor Center in Atlanta, GA was a production to remember. Serving the dual purpose of highlighting the best designers for urban fashion, evening wear and plus size women to help those in Haiti. The event’s sponsor, Apple Bottom Jeans by Nelly displayed pieces from their new fall and spring collection. These pieces ranged from gowns, the infamous Apple Bottom blue jeans, and nightlife attire such a mini dresses and urban couture pieces . Other designers that displayed their fashions on the run-way were Dress Barn, Eyahi Couture, My Hunny, Majestic Couture and Xquisite Footwear and Fashion.

All the models were beautiful and bold. The VIP Model guest list included the great singer Gerald Levert’s daughter, Carlysia Levert; Jelly, from the BET reality series “Born to Dance”, Maria Smith former producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Gemini Twins, Rein Child and Sandy Jean-Philippe, the producer of Evolution of Curves and the CEO of One Chance Entertainment. Sandy has also been featured on E! Network’s “Bank of Hollywood”. Needless to say all the models were confident and what Tyra Banks would say “Fearless”.

The intro performance was breath taking and left me saying “Who says Plus Size Women can’t Dance”. Dancing to the tunes of Beyoncé’s “Girls Run the World”, these ladies’ got down low and didn’t hesitate to bring it back to the top! Jelly from Born to Dance topped it all off with her solo “hair swinging, neck-whipping, back bending, 1-2 step that Wowed the crowd! Carlysia Levert’s intermission performance was great, and she can dance too!

There were celebrities all over the building, Eshe (VIP Model) from Arrested Development, recording artist NIVEA, Tiffany Evans, Truth Hurts and Khia. The hostesses, Ray Cunningham (College Hill), and Dave and Cole from the Dave and Cole Show “put-on” by enter acting with the audience and “cracking hilarious jokes” that personally made me laugh! There was a LAMIK Cosmetic give-away and the vendors gave away great gifts as well.

In a world where the “skinny girl” usually wins, this event was a breath of fresh air. It brought together a rainbow of models that were African-American, Caucasian, Asian, Haitian, African and Hispanic that said to the audience without saying a word, “to love every inch of your body, from the crown of your head to the sole of your feet” and “to always be the most beautiful girl in YOUR own world”.
