Flashing the HTC Evo Smartphone to Boost Mobile’s Network

The HTC Evo Android smartphone boasts many different features, including a 4G data connection, which is much faster than 3G. Unfortunately, Boost Mobile doesn’t currently offer the HTC Evo. If you already own this HTC smartphone and want to use it on Boost Mobile, you can “flash” it so that it runs on the Boost network. Once flashed, the smartphone will use Boost Mobile’s voice and data networks, and will be registered with your Boost account.

Step 1

Register the phone with your Boost Mobile account by logging in, then selecting “Activate.” If you don’t currently have a Boost Mobile account, simply click “Activate” and enter your personal information and desired log-on info, along with your cell phone’s serial number and other required numbers.

Step 2

Visit your local Boost Mobile store, and ask them to flash your HTC Evo to Boost’s network; most stores will do this for free, while some charge a small service fee. It is important to have the store flash the phone if possible, because flashing carries a small risk of “bricking” the device, which renders it unusable. If the store bricks the phone, it will replace it.

Step 3

Flash the HTC Evo at home using your computer if you don’t have access to a Boost Mobile store, or if you can’t afford the store’s flashing fee. Boost Mobile is a CDMA network. Download a CDMA flashing program, ideally one that specifically states that it supports flashing to the Boost network, such as Boost Berry Convert. Download the application onto your computer, then install it.

Once the application is installed, connect your Evo to the computer via its data cable and start the program. Follow the online flashing wizard. Enter your phone’s various numbers, such as its serial number, when prompted. Once the flashing process beings, do not unplug the Evo until prompted; unplugging the smartphone early could result in a bricked device. When prompted by the application, unplug the smartphone and reboot it by holding down the power button. It is now authorized on the Boost Mobile network.
