Customizing Your Xbox 360 Experience

As an Xbox 360 gamer, you may have a collection of games unlike any other, but is your Xbox 360 unlike any other? I’m not just talking about special edition consoles or game-specific controllers. You can also change the kind of content you see and experience and customize your gameplay to your liking.

Physical Customization

But let’s talk about the ways you can physically alter your Xbox 360 first. While no one really makes new faceplates for the Xbox 360, there were a lot of them produced back when the console first came out. These detachable plates are easy to put on, and each has a unique graphic. There are faceplates for specific games- like Tomb Raider: Legend and Gears of War– as well as custom designs that are a bit more abstract.

Even though the faceplates have been discontinued, you don’t necessarily have to get them secondhand. Websites like Amazon and Ebay still sell new faceplates for cheap.

Another way to customize the look of your console is to purchase a skin. These are basically stickers that you peel off and place on your console. These are far more common than faceplates, and a huge variety of them have been produced. They’re easier to find too, as game shops and online game websites like Gamestop.com still sell them regularly.

Whenever you buy a physical decoration like these for and Xbox 360, keep in mind that the different models will accept different adornments. Every skin and faceplate is not compatible with every Xbox 360 console, so check what you’re getting and know what kind of console you have before you buy.

Digital Customization

To make your play experience the way you want it to be, there are a host of options at your command. One of those is the ability to make your own custom music playlists. To download music onto your console, simply place the CD into the disc tray and choose the “Rip CD” option. From there you can save custom playlists, rename your tracks, and sort them how you like.

Another way to put music onto your Xbox 360 is to connect a compatible device to the console’s USB port by using a USB cable. To play your own music during a video game, press the Guide button, scroll right once, and choose the “Select Music” option at the bottom of the screen.

To change a number of personal features, check out the Social page on the console Dashboard. Selecting your Gamercard there opens up a list of options to change your background theme, your Avatar, and your Gamertag. While there are some free options available for themes and Avatar customization, the best items will cost you money.

If you’re looking to buy a background theme for your Dashboard, keep in mind that premium themes will change the entire background, as well as the look of your friends list on the Social page. Regular themes will only change the top half of your background and may not be compatible with all pages on the Dashboard.

These are just some of the many options available to you that can be used to make gaming on the Xbox 360 your very own experience.
