Castro Not Learning from Quade’s Staff

Starlin Castro was ripped by Bobby Valentine on Sunday Night Baseball yesterday for his inattention during parts of the game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The most damaging image was when a pitch was made and he had his back turned to the batter.

After the game Quade was asked about this and had no idea. I understand that Quade as a manager cannot see everything at every time, but there are several other coaches and players on the field and no one spotted this at all. I could even say that the players may not have spotted this as they should be looking at the batter as the ball is pitched, but you have a whole staff of coaches as well as bench players and no one caught this.

Castro for all his talent does have a lackadaisical streak to him. He has been benched a couple of times because of it. But this blatant error should not have gone unnoticed by the coaching staff.

This is not to say that Castro is blameless, however it does bring about a point of a lack of fundamentals on the Cubs part. This is not the first time this young man has done this. This kid came up through the minor leagues and made it all the way to the majors with this type of mentality. Castro will be a great player but there needs to be a better manager in place before we can expect to see a complete All-Star shortstop on the north side.

This is the type of thing that can turn a young promising player into one that never reaches his potential. Quade needs to be removed simply because he does not understand when or how to teach and discipline a young player.

Starlin Castro is the Cubs best player but with this team and its coaching staff he will never reach his potential.

Edit: Castro has been benched for tonights game after Quade saw replays of last nights game.
