Fall is a beautiful time when leaves start turning colors and a rainbow of beauty is created in our world. Take advantage of the colorful leaves and try these 7 activities with Fall leaves.
Sun Catcher
Find a beautiful leaf and lay on top of wax paper. Sprinkle the leaf with a thin layer of crayon shavings, being very sparse with the dark colors. Lay another piece of wax paper on top and melt the crayon shavings with a warm clothes iron. Trim the wax paper and punch a hole at the top. String with fishing wire and hang in the window.
Leaf Stamps
Paint the underside of a leaf with a thin layer of paint and press on a piece of paper. Press firmly, but not too hard and you will have a beautiful leaf stamped on your paper. Use watercolors and create stationary or stamp a plain wooden frame.
Leaf Rubbings
You can never go wrong with good old-fashioned leaf rubbings. Find a fresh leaf that won’t crumble when being held. Lay the leaf on a table face down and lay a piece of paper on top. Peel the paper off a crayon and rub the side of the crayon over the leaf. Rub the leaf on different spots of the paper and create a layered collage design.
Natural Art With Leaves
Cut open a brown paper bag for a canvas. Scoop some dirt into a bowl and add water to make mud. Add crushed leaves and tiny pebbles for texture. Gather long pine needles to use as a paintbrush (or use your hands for a messy job) and paint a masterpiece on the paper bag canvas.
Sunshine Art
Lay leaves on a dark piece of paper and set out in the sun. Lay rocks on top of the leaves so the leaves and paper don’t blow away. After a few hours, the sun would have lightened the paper and leave an impression where the leaves were.
The Leaf Game
On a windy day, lay a few hula hoops, buckets or cardboard boxes in the yard and gather 10 leaves per player. Stand back 10 big steps and let go one leaf at a time. Try to get the leaves to land inside one of the targets. Whoever gets the most leaves in, wins.
Leaf Pile Treasure Hunt
Children can’t resist raking leaves into a pile and jumping in. Make a game of it by hiding objects such as balls or other small toys and have a race to see who can find the most objects.
Fall is right around the corner. Enjoy the beauty and all the fun activities you can do with Fall leaves.
