2012 Relief Pitcher (RP) Deep Sleepers

Addison Reed – CWS – RP (23)

Drafted in the 3rd round of the 2010 MLB draft, Reed blew through the White Sox minor league system and made his major league debut in September of last season, after having only played in the minors for a little over a year. At age 23, Reed is a polished college pitcher who has excelled at every level in the minors during his career thus far. Offering excellent control and strikeout ability, Reed offers similar upside as a rookie in 2012 as what Craig Kimbrel brought as a rookie in 2011. With the closers spot open in the White Sox bullpen to begin the 2012 season, Reed is poised to take over that roll and become an excellent closer as a rookie during the 2012 season.

Rex Brothers – Col – RP (24)

After making his major league debut with the Rockies in June of last season, Brothers immediately became one of the top relief pitchers in the Rockies bullpen in 2011. Posting an excellent 2.88 ERA to go along with 59 strikeouts over 40 innings pitched, Brothers tallied 16 holds and 1 save as a rookie during the 2011 season. With the trade of former closer Huston Street, the Rockies closer job is wide open entering the 2012 season, and it makes sense that the young Rex Brothers will be given every opportunity to claim the job.

Fautino De Los Santos – Oak – RP (26)

Armed with plenty of strikeout potential, De Los Santos is a flame-thrower who can at times be very wild and struggle to throw strikes. Making his major league debut in 2011, De Los Santos displayed plenty of upside as a relief pitcher after tallying 43 strikeouts over just 33 innings pitched with the Athletics. Possessing a classic closers makeup, combined with a wide open closers job in Oakland to begin the 2012 season, De Los Santos should be given ample opportunity to stake his claim as the Athletics closer in 2012.
