“New Girl” Worth Every Quirky Second

Zooey Deschanel altered my TV viewing habits. It has been a long while since I have looked forward to watching a sitcom, but her comedy, “New Girl,” changed that. Liz Meriwether is the creator of this hit show that centers around Zooey Deschanel as Jess and three equally cute guys. The show opened with Jess searching for a new place to live and winded up finding an apartment with three single guys.

While that could go a totally different direction, the show manages to keep it cute and real. Not only is Jess still stinging from a bad break-up, so is Nick as played by Jake Johnson. Another character, CeCe, the beautiful Hannah Simone, adds a nice dimension to the show. She is a smart, sexy model who is fiercely loyal to her best friend Jess. As the season unfolds, I find myself actually using the DVR to tape episodes that I might miss. Now this is not something I normally do for any show, in fact I had to be taught to use the DVR for just this occasion.

Like the real Deschanel, I love her wardrobe, and love the fact that she singlehandedly (it seems) made tights-wearing girls with bangs cool, or at the very least shamelessly adorkable. Yes, I take this show personally, but I am not the only one who thinks “New Girl” is worth watching. It was recently nominated for Best Comedy Series and Deschanel herself scored a Best Actress in a comedy Golden Globe nomination. She is up against big time comedians, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Laura Linney and Laura Der. I say Deschanel and all her quirky cuteness can take ‘em!

She may be new to the TV sitcom arena, but she is not really a “new” girl. This actress has been steadily working her way through movies and has her own singing career to boot. When she received word of the nomination she said, “The fact that people like it and it’s getting these nominations,it’s like, like cake and ice cream, I’ve been working a really long time as an actress – I know how special and rare it is to get recognized like this.” I am hope the show enjoys a nice long run for all involved, fans like me included!
