Necrophilia on Film a True Halloween Horror

If you’re looking for seriously creepy, gory, and shocking horror movies outside the more popular offerings for your Halloween movie marathon, choosing a specific theme can be a good idea. For instance, you can search for movies that use necrophilia as a theme or element in their stories. This allows you to more easily narrow down your options from the many great horror and thriller flicks you can choose from.

Necrophilia in Movies

Generally, necrophilia refers to a person’s sexual attraction to corpses. The reason behind this may be something beyond direct explanation, but there are those who have specific motivations resulting in this unlikely behavior. These become quite apparent in characters in movies that use necrophilia as part of their stories.

Some people find gratification in possessing a passive sexual partner who has no ability to resist or reject. Others find it appealing and comforting to be physically connected to a dead person. There are also those who are mentally or psychologically disturbed, so they seek self-esteem by having sex with a helpless, murdered person.

“Viridiana” (1961)

A winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1961 Cannes Film Festival, the Spanish-Mexican film “Viridiana” by Luis Bunuel tells the story of a devout Spanish convent novice visiting her widower uncle, who is still mourning the death of his wife. He lost her from a heart attack before their wedding night. Now, he sees his wife through Viridiana, who looks very much like her aunt. The uncle’s necrophiliac passion tempts him to drug and rape her while she is wearing his dead wife’s wedding gown.

“Sweet Kill” (1973)

The horror movie “Sweet Kill,” also re-released as “A Kiss from Eddie” and “The Arousers,” revolves around the story of a man who is unable to have sex with women because of some repressed memories from his younger years. In one attempt to have sex with a woman, he accidentally kills her, then realizes that he gets aroused with a dead woman’s body. From here, he starts a series of murders in order to have sex with dead women.

This B-movie is the directorial debut of Curtis Hanson, a future Academy Award winner. It was also produced by renowned B-movie mogul Roger Corman.

“Nekromantik” (1987)

The low-budget German film “Nekromantik” by Jorg Buttgereit depicts the sexual life of a necrophiliac couple. The man is able to bring home corpses because of his work. So, he and his wife enjoy sexual escapades with the dead bodies he brings. However, he finds his wife preferring to have sex with corpses over him. Unable to supply corpses anymore for his wife when he loses his job, she leaves him.

This controversial gore shocker was banned in many countries because of its treatment of the subject matter and the brutal and sickening scenes of sex with corpses.

“Visitor Q” (2001)

“Visitor Q” is a Japanese horror flick from Takashi Miike. It tells the story of a desperate TV reporter who turns his bizarre family into a reality TV sensation. This controversial low-budget movie features a man who accidentally kills a woman, then plans to chop her body into pieces. However, he first decides to have sex with her. While doing the act, the woman’s body goes into rigor mortis, which is one of the recognizable signs of death where the dead body becomes stiff and difficult to move. This causes the man’s private part to get stuck inside the woman’s hardened body.
