I’m sure you’ve seen this: a car stopped beside the road,its hazard lights flashing,clearly a driver in distress,right? Is it really though?
I saw a car stopped on the side of the road one early morning,while taking my girlfriend to work.Nothing unusual in that,I see it all the time. I almost didn’t see the driver who came up from the other side of the road.He was carrying a gas can,& was coming to ask for money. I don’t give money to people like that,especially at 4:30 am,when I’m alone. What made this so strange to me was the fact that the man in question was ” out of gas” next to a 24 hour station, & walking from the ” opposite” side of the road from the station.
Later that same day the same man,same car,was parked in my front yard by the street, hazards flashing,sitting at the stop sign. The driver was across the intersection getting money from a young lady in a truck. I heard him say “thank you miss” before she drove away. He started walking up the road,he looked back watched her drive out of sight,turned around came back to his car,put the empty gas can in his trunk,then get in and ‘drive’ away.
He came back a couple of hours later, & started the same routine again. This time I phoned the local police.They came out and just warned him. Okay, fine. A few days later he was back.Same routine,I called the cops again. He left before thay got here.This was almost comical. Well I have made a total of five complaints about it. The county sheriff responded. Oh maybe now something will get done. NOT! They let him go with a warning!!?? I’m paying taxes for this? If it had been a hooker soliciting she would have been arrested and taken away.For panhandling in a residential area you get warning after warning that’s all?
I guess all they want is a paycheck now. Whatever happened to ” Protect and Serve ” ?
