Love Will Always Find a Way

A battle wound that he bore so deep, a wound that was never talked about and would take over a lifetime to heal. At times he seem to be lost in thought but in truth he was living in a time that grew in distance as time past. It was a happier time when plans were made and a future was laid out that would be full of happiness and more than two people in love could hope for. The scene would be played again and again as the years past in time there was always hope that somehow it would be lost in time or replaced with much happier thoughts but that would not be the case.

It was in the latter part of the past century that this tragic unfolded. Two lovers that lost them selves in time, they were happy and as they shared laughter their love grew. It was the tragic news of a war in a far away country that would play the grim reaper to their happiness and joy. She had two brothers in that far away land, serving their country and they soon would be home. There was a knock on the door but as the door was open, there was no smile to greet them nor was there a duffel bag holding all that he had. It was not a son to hug and to hold. It was two officers with the look of death upon their eyes. A few prayers were rapidly said but they were not answered as the death of one of her brothers was announced. She cried what seemed like an ocean of tears; her heart was broken in too many pieces to be place together as one. Her thoughts of the remaining brother in that far away land filled her thoughts and prayers. On bending knees in church every Sunday that she never missed she pray for his safe return. Her heart that was broken and in hopes that if she could hold her remain brother in her arms maybe her heart would mend, A few months had passed, and a knock was heard on the door. The sound of the knock seemed too familiar, it was heard once before, when death came to visit.

As the door open, there were no smiles nor was there a duffel bag holding that all that he had. It was two officers with the look of death upon their eyes. A few prayers were rapidly said but they were not answered as the death of her brother was announced. Her mother fell to her knees, never to recover. She looked to the heavens and curse words filled the air, she prayed to God for his safe return and was met with death instead, but somehow life went on.

As the years past another one helped filled her heart with love and understanding. As time passed they grew close and swore their undying love for each other but that was soon to change. He was called to active duty and she prayed for his safe return. The letters that was written each day sometimes passed each other in the U.S. mail. They may have been apart but their love still grew. A few months had passed when a leave was granted and soon they would set and laugh together. The time they were apart would soon be mended and laughter and happiness would soon fill the air. It was on the third day of the leave when he mention that his next duty station would be the country that already claimed two of her brothers. She burst out in tears for her heart was once again broken. She could not bear to loose another love one in that country so far away. He begged her for marriage but she had to refuse, she just could not bear to loose one so close once again. They agree upon staying as friends and to send letter to bring joy to each other lives.

The letters once again was written each day sometimes passed each other in the U.S. mail. The letter and pictures brought joy to each other. Maybe this time death would not claim another she thought. Six months would pass before the exchange of letter would soon come to and end. It was not by death but a careless fling by the lover that sat safe at home. He kept sending letter for a few months more. The letters never passed each other in the U.S. mail as they did in the past.

The remaining days would in that country so far away seem like ten life times maybe more. Upon his return to the country that he called home, he found out that she married another. She married the father of the child that she bore in a careless fling. His life was lost, but not by a bullet or maybe a bomb, but a broken heart that would never mend. With tears in their eyes they soon said their farewells, A marriage that they felt that would be made in heaven was buried in hell.

He returned to that county so far away, the country that killed his love for another and the country that claimed her two brothers and ended their happiness together. The chances he took, and the prayers for death that he spoke all failed in their tracks. At night he would try to sleep, but somewhere between the awaken state and the sleep that he desperately could not find they would once again be together laughing, loving and be whole again. The remainder of his tour seem to be a life time maybe more. Upon end of his tour if he were still alive, he would find her and some how win her back.

She no longer could be found, some other state she and her family had moved. As the years past, he cursed the war for all it had taken, he cursed the war for not taken his life and ending the loneness for this girl that he loved so deeply. Some nights in his sleep he would call out her name. In the final years of his life he grew bitter, his thoughts would pass to happier times. His search for that lost love never bore fruit. Maybe if there is a heaven together they would be and once again run in the fields and hold each other so close that it would never end. They would hold each other so tightly that never again would they part.

His death would not happen tomorrow or the day after that. It seemed he was cursed to live forever and maybe a time after that. His love for his young friend never grew weak as the days and months turned into years their love grew stronger and his loneness for her. He would have been ninety-two if death had stayed away, as his last breath was drawn no fear was felt, but a strange smile broke across his face. All his life he had grown impatient for this day to come, he thought to him self what took so long. As he enter this new world that seemed like a cloud, he heard a voice from behind that seemed all too familiar. It was a voice that in his younger days brought happiness and joy and deep burning love that would never die. He heard it once again asking him what took him so long, “I been waiting a day and half to run across the fields with my one true love once again”. At night when viewing the fields, if the tall crops are moving when no wind can be felt. It might be two lovers that time could never claim and if you listen real close you might hear laughter and voice of two lovers that time could never part.
