With Kim Kardashian, 31, filing for divorce from Kris Humphries, early Monday morning, we doubt few people will be surprised to learn of this split, which many felt was imminent. With a quick and public courtship lasting a mere 6 months, and an all too recent wedding special filmed for E!, the tension between these two was palpable even before they said “I do”.
With so many work obligations keeping these two apart, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, 26, spent more time defending their short romance to the press then they actually did together. With her recent trip to Dubai and his ongoing NBA lockout, these two lovebirds seemed to be on opposite sides of the world for most of their marriage. After uniting in Vegas for her Oct 21st birthday, rumors began to swirl that their marriage was on the rocks. Quick to blame the tension on their recent trip to New York for the second season of Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Kardashian told PEOPLE that her and Humphries’ living situation was less then “ideal”.
Yet despite her attempt to keep the press out of her relationship and mend her 2 1/2 month old marriage, Kardashian finally gave in and filed for divorce. Citing “irreconcilable differences” in her Los Angeles Superior Court filing on Monday, Kardashian notes that the couple has a prenuptial agreement and asks the court to deny spousal support to Humphries.
Despite this sad, but all too expected news, this type of quickie divorce is nothing new in Hollywood.
You may remember when Ali Landry and Mario Lopez wed back in 2004. Even though this couple has spent 6 years together before getting married, it took only two weeks come to an end, amid infidelity rumors surfaced relating to Lopez’s bachelor party. And then there was Drew Barrymore, who at 19 years old, wed bar owner Jeremy Thomas for a mere 19 days!
Yet despite the brides before her who could have warned her about making the same mistakes they did, or the millions of viewers who watched Kim’s wedding special and had warnings of their own, Kardashain still threw caution to the wind and walked down the aisle on August 20th.
Perhaps it was pressure of being filmed that made the idea of becoming a runaway bride unreasonable, or Kardashian’s dream of the perfect weeding that kept her going, but either way, we’re sure that this one memory Kim Kardashian will soon want to put behind her. Unfortunately, this big splashy wedding will forever live on in television entertainment history. I bet this is one TV special the Kardashian’s wish we wouldn’t keep up with!
