How to Make a New Year Scrapbook

Whether you spend New Year’s Eve at hot parties or just watch the ball drop on television, you probably have a lot of great memories from the last hurrah of the holiday season. One way to preserve these memories is to create a New Year scrapbook. My personal New Year scrapbook started in 2007. I’ve been putting in two pages each year and plan to continue adding on for a long time. It is already fun to see how I’ve changed over the past several years.

Depending on how many pictures you have, you can add a few pages every year or use the entire album to commemorate one big New Year’s bash. Follow this guide to make your very own New Year scrapbook.

Years

The most distinctive way to organize your New Year scrapbook is to include large labels that designate each year. Some scrapbook stores sell New Year’s paper with the year’s number in the background. You can also find flashy embellishments that show off the given year.

If you are trying to make a layout with pictures from, say, 2004, you may have a more difficult time finding ready-made embellishments. This just means that you’ll have to be a little more creative. If your local scrapbook store has an open scrapbooking area with die cut machines, use these to cut the appropriate numbers from colorful paper. You can further decorate these numbers with brads, glitter or rhinestones. Another option is to use stencils and scrapbook pens to write out numbers on the page. Some stencils offer unique fonts that work well with a variety of layouts.

Embellishments

You’ll want to jazz up your New Year scrapbook with some other embellishments besides the year in which the pictures were taken. You should have no trouble finding embellishments related to New Year’s Eve online or at the nearest scrapbook store. Look for embellishments featuring champagne, streamers. Confetti, or the Times Square Ball.

Quotes

Add a little meaning to your scrapbook page with some good New Year’s quotes. If you’re feeling lazy, you can look for sticker books of quotes. Otherwise, choose a favorite quote and write it on the page with a fancy journaling pen. Here are a few suggestions:

” An optimist stays up the whole night to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.”

-Bill Vaughn

” Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.”

-Oprah Winfrey

” New year, same goal.”

-Joe King

” New Year’s Day is every man’s birthday.”

-Charles Lamb

” One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this: To rise above the little things.”

-John Burroughs
