It can be frustrating to look around at a room and just feel…blah. Perhaps the current decor is a little drab, but you don’t have the cash to start over. Maybe you live in a rental property that doesn’t allow you to paint or do anything extreme. Or perhaps it is just time for a change. Whatever the reason, it is easy to turn a boring room into a new, fresh-looking place without breaking the bank or spending weeks redecorating! Here are a few simple suggestions to get you started:
-Flowers or herbs set around the room help bring in a natural look. Find some seasonal blooms that you like or just pick some wildflowers while out on a walk, set them in a few pretty vases, and voila!
-Unattractive furniture can be quickly made over with a slipcover or two. Places like IKEA carry inexpensive ones, but if you are crafty and have a good pattern, you can easily make one at home!
-Instead of painting the entire room, try just adding a border along the ceiling. Just tape off the desired area and go to town – you will be amazed what a difference it makes (and how much you save on paint).
-Switch up the lighting by using colored bulbs or lampshades. This simple touch can soften, brighten, and make the room just a bit more interesting.
-If a slipcover isn’t an option and a new sofa is out of the picture, just adding a couple of new pillows or pillowcases can make a world of difference.
-Decorate with literature! Go to a used bookstore and find some gorgeous old books. Use them as coffee table decor, or stack them on shelves to create a simple, elegant decoration.
-Glass is beautiful! Secondhand stores often carry gorgeous vintage glass decorations for next to nothing. Alternatively, wine and liquor bottles can look amazing and make great candle holders!
