The Philadelphia Eagles came into the 2011 season with high expectations, more than usual with the massive free agent signings, just to dissappoint once more. Many will argue who’s fault it really is for the Eagle’s 2011 collapse. Most are blaming Andy Reid and rooting for his termination. As an Eagle’s fan, I would not like to see that happen.
We have all heard about how Andy is the winningest coach in team history and one of the most successful in the NFL, but some would argue how the number of superbowl rings measure how good a coach really is. Andy may have zero rings, but he has always the team the chance to play for it, being in the playoffs eight times out of eleven seasons, about to be 12, while reaching to the NFC championship game five times. But yet again, those trips have been fruitless. We have blamed Andy Reid for those losses, and he takes all the blame when he shouldnt be. When anything goes wrong with the team, Andy will always step up and take one for the team. He is a player’s coach, he will not throw any of his players or his coaching staff under the bus even if it is their fault.
If Andy Reid is not to blame, then who is? Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that Andy Reid should take some of the blame with his poor play calling in the most crucial of moments, but as Lesean McCoy said in his interview with Deion Sanders, “he’s not the one out there missing tackles, missing catches, fumbling the ball, turnovers…he has nothing to do with that.” and I completely agree with the 23 year old running back. From what I have seen, the defense of the eagles should take most of the blame. From losing multiple 4th quarter leads, to just blowing coverages, the eagles defense has been horrible. So if any coach should be fired, I believe it should be Juan Castillo. I like him as an offensive line coach, but as a defensive coordinator, it is just not meant to be. So to get rid of one of the best coaches in the NFL, because of the fault of others, does not makes sense to me.
