“Crazy, Stupid, Love” Anything but Stupid

“Crazy, Stupid, Love”, a star studded romantic comedy, was released July 29th, 2011 and is definitely worth the money to go check this out while it’s still in the theaters. Hollywood funny man Steve Carell, stars as Cal, a husband and father who just learned that is unhappy wife Emily, played by Julianne Moore, is seeking a divorce. The news leaves Carell sad and with no where to turn, until he starts frequenting a night club and befriends Jacob, the young ladies man played by Ryan Gosling.

The beginning of this film had a “Dan in Real Life” feel, meaning despite it being pitched as a comedy, the film took on a direction that was more desperate. Knowing that Carell starred in both films I feared the worst, only to be pleasantly surprised. Now don’t get me wrong, there were portions of this film that were sad, but they only aided in telling a very good and fun story that followed the complex relationships of the six main characters.

Emma Stone, Hannah, comes more and more into her own with each film she is in. I could argue that the most quotable lines from this film came from the on-screen connection between her and Gosling. Analeigh Tipton plays Jessica, the young babysitter who has a huge crush on Carell, displays a very natural screen presence despite this being only her second feature film. Her experience being in front of the camera from America’s Next Top Model does not go unnoticed during her scenes in this film.

“Crazy, Stupid, Love” is a crazy love story, but certainly not stupid. The story telling is masterful and the end result will not leave you disappointed. Head to the theater and enjoy and laugh with the audience before it’s too late.
