It only makes sense to bench a player after coming off of neck surgery. This is what has happened to Peyton Manning.
It’s best to take care of him rather than stick him back in the game to get hurt that could end his career or his life. Some sports writers, like Michael Marot, are wondering if the Colts has what it takes to win their opening game without Manning.
If they are so worried about the how the team will fair without their star quarterback, why don’t the writers get out there and take up the slack. Oh wait, they can’t because they’re too busy speculating on what could happen.
If the Colts can’t get a win without Manning on the field, they might as well hang up their gear and call it quits. The Colts are a team; not a one man show. If Manning is as good for the team as everyone thinks he is, he could play every position without any of his fellow team mates.
If the Colts can’t perform any better with Manning off the field than they have according to Marot in Colts say Manning doubtful for Sunday’s opener, then the owner of the team needs to do one of two things.
One thing is fire the whole of them and get a new team that can win without depending on one man’s arm. The other thing would be to close up shop and call it a day.
Since neither thing will happen, the Colts just need to get their act together and play like a team should on the field. One of these days, it’s going to come down where Manning will retire.
Oh wait, maybe he will; maybe he won’t. After all, Favre has retired more times than Joe Namath has changed his underwear during a season.
The Colts need to man up and play ball. The sports writers need to stop speculating and report on the games. Just because past facts show the Colts being a group of losers without Peyton on the field, in the end it’s all about playing the game as a team not depending on man to take care of business.
Manning just needs to worry about himself and healing after neck surgery rather than having speculation of what’s to come added to his recovery.
To top matters off, Jason Cole, another sports writer, says Manning being bench hurts the NFL as much as the Colts. How is that exactly Jason? Peyton plays for the Colts; not the whole NFL. Players have come and players have gone. The whole league won’t crumble if he is to never return as a player.
The NFL has managed through injuries that have ended careers before. They have managed to move right along after numerous retirements of players like Merlin Olsen, Terry Bradshaw, and Emmett Smith.
