TLC’s “Toddlers & Tiaras” aired an episode of a 3 year old girl dressed like Julia Roberts character in the movie “Pretty Woman”.
Let’s put aside how wrong it is of her mother and her attitude towards her decision and focus on why news outlets are showing the video.
It doesn’t make sense to me as to why TLC would even air such a controversy issue.
Showing the video over and over on news outlets is like exploiting the toddler over and over again. Google, “pretty woman hooker costume”, there are more websites, social networking sites and news outlets that have published the video of the toddler “strutting her stuff” on stage like a grown woman.
In August, 72 people were charged in an online child pornography ring. Child advocates have stated the repeated viewing of the videos was victimizing the child again. How is this any different? Posting the video everywhere online is like waving candy in front of the predators.
It was wrong of the mother to dress her daughter like a hooker, and yet the video has been plastered all over the media and social networking sites for predators.
It’s more than just how Dickey dressed her daughter in that fashion, TLC shouldn’t have aired the episode, knowing that it would become a bad discussion among viewers and the public. TLC’s show also helps exploit young children by showing toddlers trying on pads for their chest and their bottoms.
Parent’s who exploit their child in any kind of way needs to be charged with child abuse and sex exploitation of a child. “Toddlers & Tiaras”, helps in that matter.
Too much happens to our children today. There are children that have and still are being molested while in school, at home, in daycares, parks, and churches. Parents allowing their children to dress like adults and TLC airing the footage worsens the situation.
