Why the BCS Shouldn’t Allow LSU Vs. Alabama – the Sequel

A word of advice to BCS voters: sending the Alabama Crimson Tide to the National Championship Game would be a tremendous mistake.
I’m not just saying that because I’m an Auburn fan and we got clobbered in the Iron Bowl.

I’m saying it because I am an SEC football fan. I’m saying it because Alabama had their shot to beat LSU at home – and they didn’t get it done. And I’m saying it because another team from another conference deserves a shot at a National Championship – be it Oklahoma State or Virginia Tech or Stanford or Houston (who is currently undefeated.)

Alabama made beating Auburn look easy mainly because it was. Let’s face it. Auburn is doggone LUCKY to be 7-5. They almost lost the first game this year to Utah State and could have easily lost to Mississippi State and South Carolina. So, if BCS voters think that the Crimson Tide’s pounding of the Tigers into the Jordan-Hare turf somehow made them deserving of a second chance against LSU, they are delusional.
Yes, the SEC is, hands down, the most dominating conference in the country. Five straight years. Five straight national championships. But two teams from the SEC in the National Championship game? It is, flat out, a BAD idea, especially when one has already beaten the other. The BCS system is already flawed. Re-matching conference games, no matter how well-fought, will only make it worse.

Do I think that Alabama and LSU are the two best teams in the country? Yes. Do I think they should play again? Absolutely not. Bama had its chance in Tuscaloosa. They blew it. Another school in another conference deserves at least the chance to play for the trophy.
Sometimes, it should just be about common sense fairness.

The “Game of the Century” was just about as exciting and heart pounding as you get. All movies do not need a sequel. This is one of them.
So, come on, BCS voters. Not every college football fan lives and breathes SEC football. Give us all something different.

The teams mentioned above, their fans and SEC fans have earned it.
