Variations on the Original Toll House Cookie Recipe

One of the most popular cookie recipes in America is the original Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. While the recipe came about due to a mistake, it’s no mistake that these cookies are easy, yet delicious. If you want the original recipe, it can be found on any package of Toll House Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips or you can also find it at the Toll House website. However, if you’d like to put a spin on this classic recipe, you’re going to love these suggestions.

White Chocolate Berry Cookies

One of the easiest ways to change up the original Toll House recipe is to change the variety of chocolate. Personally, I love to use white chocolate chips. I love the creamy flavor, but they can be a bit overwhelming on their own. To counteract the sweetness, you can add a cup of dried berries. While cranberries are a popular choice, there are a number of other dried berries available. Blackberries, blueberries and strawberries all make a great option. If you want, you can also add nuts to the recipe. Pistachios and almonds are a wonderful alternative to the classic walnuts and pecans. And, if you want one last tip for these cookies, try adding a different extract. For example, use an orange extract with white chocolate chips and cranberries.

Pantry Raid Cookies

If you’re anything like me, there’s a good chance you have several half used packages of chocolate, nuts, berries and candy stashed in the pantry. Instead of letting these odds and ends go to waste, combine them all into the classic Toll House recipe. For example, you might have a dough that has a half-cup milk chocolate chunks, a half-cup semi-sweet chips, a half-cup of dark chocolate chips and a half-cup of white chocolate chips. You could then add a half-cup of pecans and a half-cup of walnuts or a half-cup of cranberries and a half-cup of slivered almonds. Be inventive with what you have on hand. You may just create the next family favorite.

Candy Cookies

When making cookies, you aren’t limited to what you might find in the baking aisle. There are a number of delicious candies that make perfect cookies. Whether it’s M&Ms, Raisinets or even chopped candy bars, you can make some great cookies. These are always a favorite of young kids, but can also be a favorite of adults as well, especially if you use higher quality candies. For example, why not try adding chopped Dark Chocolate Dove candies along with walnuts to the recipe?
