Three of the Best Remodeling Tips

So you wanna get into remodeling the house does ya? Well, let’s see: remodeling isn’t quite the popular thing it used to be because it is so much cheaper and easier to go out and buy replacements, even to the extent of buying a replacement domicile. Because, well, you see, the truth is that furniture and houses aren’t made quite as well these days as they used to be. So the first thing you want to do when choosing to remodel your existing furniture or the house is to make sure it’s worth the expense and effort over just some quick and inexpensive replacement. Once you’ve decided that remodeling is worth the time and effort, here are some more tips and pieces of extant advice which you can apply.

Check the Screws

Screw it! You can avoid this now almost quaint epithet by making sure that you’ve got the right size screw. Screws come in a number of different sizes and even some different shapes. You can also find screws available in a variety of materials from aluminum, which the British just can’t seem to get a handle on pronouncing correctly, to brass, which they pronounce as bross, bless their kidney eating little hearts. Look carefully at the type of screw in the furniture to be remodeled before heading out to your local hardware store…and you do want to give local stores your business ahead of the heartless monoliths with names that begin with an L or a H & D, right? Double check to make sure whether you will be replacing a flathead, roundhead or squarehead screw and whether you will need to countersink the screw or not. Get to know your gauge numbers as well if you want to avoid problems and multiple trips to that hardware store.

Add a Deck

Everybody loves a big deck….two, three, four. Yeah, it’s true. You add a deck your house and you don’t even have to do too much more remodeling. People will go into a house that has paint peeling and flooring curling up, but if you can get them through the house to the back yard and open up the door to reveal a deck, well, sir, you’ve got the hook in the fish and it’s simply time to reel that mackerel in. Of course, there are some caveats of which you need to be aware. A deck not attached to the house is far less insurance than a deck that is attached. If you really want to ensure that your remodeling plans result in having an easier time selling the house later on, do whatever it takes to make sure the deck is attached. Also, be wary of attaching the deck outside a bedroom. It may seem like a great idea to attract those who want to leave the confines of their bedroom to stretch out or do other sundry activities on the deck outside, but history suggests that even a small deck from which you can get to via the back door is a more efficiently economic remodeling choice than a big deck that can only be gotten to through a bedroom door. The reasons should be obvious when stated that way.

High Tech Toilets

Next to the kitchen, the best remodeling choice to make is expanding or adding a bathroom. But here’s a little secret told your author by a real estate agent. Adding the most high tech toilet is a much better remodeling deal to consider than doubling the space or putting in separate sinks or adding a standalone shower. According to my source who has sold more than a fair share of remodeled houses, for some reason people really put a premium on the latest in toilet upgrades. The quieter the toilet, the more likely your chances of translating remodeling effort into cold hard cash when it comes time to sell the house. If your remodeling budget allows you to not only upgrade the toilet to the highest of technical specs, but also to add a bidet to the situation, you will have done much more to increase the value than you might possibly suspect.
