The Gilbert of the Black Lagoon

Linda, Larry, Kelly, and Rod were driving around in Lake Michigan when they realized they were sinking. They quickly drove out of the lake and back to town. From there, they returned to their own hometown, more than five hundred miles south. Why they were so far off course was never discussed.

The four friends were happily dragging Main Street when a cry was heard. Suddenly, a white Ford Galaxy ran them off the road. Out of the vehicle jumped The Gilbert of the Black Lagoon, followed by Tony Kong. The two monsters dashed over, grabbed the four friends, and threw them in the backseat of the Galaxy. “What’s going on?” Kelly asked, and the others voiced similar concerns.

“You’ll see,” Gilbert snickered ominously, his large white teeth glittering in the moonlight.

The puzzled captives were then taken to a dark swamp.

“Where are we?” asked Larry, looking around with wide eyes.

“In a dark swamp,” answered Linda.

Everyone thought she was brilliant. Even The Gilbert of the Black Lagoon frankly and overtly admired her grasp of the situation.

Near the car, a huge cave yawned in the darkness. “That cave is yawning in the darkness,” Rod stated. “I wonder if it’s tired.”

“You’ll soon find out just how tired it is!” Tonygor smirked. “Mwuah, ha ha ha!”

The two monsters threw the foursome inside the murky opening, where they landed awkwardly on a wet stone floor. “This is embarrassing,” said Rod. “I actually fell on my bottom like an olive in a martini glass. I hope no one was watching.”

“It’s dark in here. Who could see it?” Linda rolled her eyes. No one could see that either.

“Guard the entrance,” The Gilbert of the Black Lagoon told Tony Kong. “I’m going to go get Mike, the Giant Leech. I hope that he’s dressed and ready. He is such a primper. Probably have to bring his mirror if I expect to get him out of his lair.” He lurched away and soon the sound of a car engine broke the silence.

“You guys are in real trouble now,” Tony bragged to his captives. “The car started, and that means very soon a giant leech will be joining us. Then things will get really sticky for you.”

“We’ve got to escape,” Kelly whispered to her friends.

They obviously couldn’t go out the entrance, guarded as it was by the arrogant Tony Kong, so Kelly decided to go out the wall. It didn’t work.

They came to the conclusion that the only answer was to go deeper into the cave, so they moved like shadows toward what they perceived to be the back of the cavern.

“Are you holding my hand?” Rod asked Linda.

“No,” she said.

“Then who is?” Rod asked.

“I am,” said Gilbert in a gurgling whisper.

Rod screamed and they all ran. “I thought he was driving his car, picking up the leech or something!”

“Can’t believe you fell for that old ploy,” Gilbert laughed, his gills flapping wetly with mirth. “Mike the Giant Leech is already here. In fact, he lives in the back of this cave. You are running right into his arms…ok, he doesn’t have arms. You are running right into his…hold on…Tony Kong, help me out here! What are they running into?”

“His um, um, skin? His membranes? I don’t know…”

While the monsters argued and debated the most appropriate term to use, the captives sneaked around them in the darkness and fled through the front opening of the cave. They hijacked the Ford Galaxy and left the monsters stranded in the cavern near the dark swamp.

“Just let them try to hitch a ride!” Larry gloated. “Ain’t nobody gonna pick them up! We’ve escaped!”

Or so they thought…..
