The Best Truck I Ever Owned – the 2005 Chevy Suburban

My best truck was a beautiful metallic charcoal grey 2005 Chevy Suburban LT. It was the last of the Suburbans before they called it the Yukon XL. The V8 Vortec was great for overtaking, lots of power even with a heavy truck. My best truck was loaded; leather, heated seats, CD/DVD, sun roof, air ride, you name it. It was a GM executive vehicle, less than a year old when I got it, and beautiful.

It had the smoothest ride of any truck I have had. When loading down the back with building supplies or feed, you’d heard the air ride level just like the big trucks. Cruising down the road was smooth and easy. Sitting up high, you could see well down the road, even in heavy traffic.

The stabilitrack gave all-wheel drive, second to none, in our snowy Northern winters and on rough gravel roads. Snow drifts were just a change in color on the road. That Suburban truck didn’t flinch. It was great to have the peace of mind that the sensors were always on and looking out for trouble.

The soft leather heated seats; full sunroof and awesome Bose stereo system were sheer luxury on my long drives. I put over a hundred thousand miles on that truck. Monotonous highway miles, but with the roof open and the tunes cranked out of those 9 speakers, it was a breeze. Time flew by.

Best truck I ever owned, it never needed much work. The computer told me when the oil life was going down, when it needed oil changes, saving me money by not having to do it automatically.

Installing the aftermarket remote-start at the dealer meant a few trips back for wiring. The truck would tell me the door was open when closed and that kind of thing. It sounds pretty common if you don’t go with the factory installed starter and get an aftermarket remote start. On a crisp, cold snowy winter’s morning, I would climb into a warm truck with a warm leather seat. No more aching hands on a frozen steering wheel. It was luxury!

Of course it used some fuel, but a whole tank took you nearly 500 miles. I remember filling up one hot summer day and having a guy asked me how liked it. I could honestly say I loved it and it was worth the gas. So when someone asks me what’s the best truck ever owned I am certain it was my 2005 Suburban Truck.
