Sometimes, the most understated things are the ones which get noticed so much. That will be true at your wedding when you pay attention to the tiny details. Whether you have a huge budget or a small one, whether you’re having a casual wedding or an elegant affair, there’s a type of place marker you can make which will also serve as a party favor. The adorable little place cards are a breeze to make and will hold a little packet that contains flower seeds.
Choose any color of cardstock to make the place card party favors. Cardstock is available in many colors and, at a craft store, you can buy it already in squares, rectangles, and other shapes. The rectangular ones are ideal for this project.
You can buy tiny organza bags from a craft or other store but it’s almost just as easy to make them. Simply cut a small rectangle of the see-thru fabric, fold it in half, and sew down the two sides. That’s it.
Sew or buy the bags and place a few flower seeds in each one. The seeds can be those of your favorite flower, or can even be vegetable seeds. In fact, if you want, make assorted bags of seeds. Just be sure to label the bags so everyone knows what is in them. Make tiny cards or stickers, write the type of seeds on each one, and glue or tape the card to the seed bag.
With the cardstock folded in half, and placed in front of you, position it so that it opens from the front, up. On the inside, it’s nice to write a sentiment. This can just be the word “Love”, done in calligraphy, or can just say “Thanks For Coming”. Close the top and, on the right side of the front, staple, tape, or even sew the seed packet in place. On the left area of the card, write the name of a guest, handwritten, in pen. Then, just stand the little place card up on the table.
Although the place card/party favors are not costly to make you can create an even cheaper version. Instead of using organza just use a tiny piece of clear plastic or cellophane to hold the seeds; tape the sides of the bag. And, if you don’t want to give out seeds, the tiny organza or cellophane bag can hold a candy, a tiny soap, some mints, or even a couple of incense cones. They’re simply adorable.
