Materials:
1 – 7 oz, 366 yds. skein 4 ply worsted yarn (Sample shown is in Caron Simply Soft in Dk. Country Blue) Size 8 (5mm) circular needle Size 9 (5.5mm) circular needle Stitch Marker Tapestry needle
Gauge: 18 sts x 22 rows = 4″/10 cm square in Stockinette st on size 8 needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

Special Stitches:
Sk2p: slip 1 st, knit 2 sts together, pass slipped st over 2 knitted sts
Skp: slip 1 st, knit 1 st, pass slipped st over knitted sts
COWL:
With circular needle cast on 168 sts and work k2, p2 rib for 10 rows (NOTE: place marker to indicate where row begins/ends; also when knitting in the round all rows are knit as right side rows; be careful not to twist your yarn).
Change to size 9 needles and beg pattern stitches:
Row 1, 3 & 5: *yo, sk2p, yo, k5; rep from * around
Row 2 & all alt rows: knit
Row 7: sl first st and mover marker to after sl st (Note; this will now be the last of this row); *k1, yo, skp, k3, k2tog, yo; rep from * around
Row 9: k2, *yo, skp, k1, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from *; end with yo, k1
Row 11: k3: * yo, sk2p, yo, k5; rep from *; end with yo, k2
Row 13: k2, * k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skp, k3; rep from *; end with yo, skp, k1
Row 15: *k1, k2tog; yo, k3, yo, skp; rep from to end
Row 16: knit to last st (NOTE: move marker back to before last st, this will now be the 1st of next row).
Row 17, 19 & 21: rep row 1
Row 22: rep row 2
Repeat rows 1 through 22 two more times, change back to size 8 needles and work 8 rows of k2, p2 rib; next BO all remaining sts in pattern; finally weave in all loose ends.
