Regis Says Goodbye to ‘Live’ – My Favorite Regis Moments

COMMENTARY | On Friday, Regis Philbin took his last steps onto the “Live with Regis and Kelly” stage for his farewell show. Regis has co-hosted the show for 28 years – only one year shy of my whole life – and has entertained people in a way that few people have. I remember watching “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” with my mother when I was a young child (especially on the days I missed school) and I have continued to watch Regis with Kelly now as an adult. I know I speak for a lot of people when I say that Regis will be dearly missed and will always be remembered. As a tribute, here are my favorite Regis moments:

Regis Scares Meryl Streep
November 16, 2009

Meryl Streep is one of my favorite actresses, so I had to watch “Live” the day she was going to be a guest. Poor Regis misread the cue card, which said that Meryl’s daughter just “got her big break” and instead, he told Meryl her daughter had broken her leg. She was shocked, but laughed along with Regis when they told him he made the mistake. It was so funny – the funniest moments are never scripted with Regis.

Regis and Kelly Dress up as J-Lo and Steven Tyler
Halloween 2010

“Hey, Randy, how you doing baby?” Regis says to a cut-out Randy Jackson on “Live”‘s 2010 Halloween special. Kelly dressed up like Jennifer Lopez and Regis came out as Steven Tyler. I laughed so hard at this episode because Regis and Kelly act so crazy with each other. There are also a lot of good costumes from audience members on this episode.

Regis and Kelly Spoof ‘Jersey Shore’
October 2010

No show would be complete without poking fun at “Jersey Shore” because after all, that show is a train wreck you can’t help but watch, right? Regis and Kelly decided to spoof the characters on “Jersey Shore” – it was hilarious! Regis is surprisingly very convincing and Kelly does a good Snooki!

These are just three of thousands of memorable Regis moments. On the farewell show of “Live,” many special guests told Regis how much they love him and are going to miss him when he goes, but a one-hour farewell show can’t possibly do justice to say farewell to one of America’s favorite faces. Best Wishes, Regis! We’ll miss you!
