Phases of the moon

A phase of the moon consists of different cutouts showcasing the different stages the moon goes through during its orbit. This includes waning, waxing and the full moon phase. Cut out a series of circles from construction paper to create your different moon shapes from. The shape varies from a complete circle at full moon to a thin crescent shape with several stages in between. You can display these crafts on a large poster board with labels to teach children the different stages of the moon they see at night.

Nighttime scene

A nighttime portrait allows you to recreate your view of the moon and sky from your location. Use a piece of black construction paper or poster board as your picture base. Cut out a paper moon from a colored construction paper or white and color the correct color. Create the moon and other elements such as clouds and stars from paper, foil or colored foam in appropriate sizes.

Moon and Stars

A moon and stars is a creative craft that has a paper moon with various stars suspended underneath it with string. Choose a phase of the moon you like and cut it out of a paper plate to withstand the weight of the stars. Cut several small stars out of aluminum foil and color the moon its desired color. Make a small hole in the star and a corresponding hole in the moon connecting the two with string or fishing line. This craft acts a mobile that you suspend from the ceiling with the stars moving from airflow movement within the room.

A moon face is a humorous paper moon craft that allows you to use your imagination to design the facial features. You can use a full moon to create a full facial picture or a crescent shape to create a side view. Cut out the moon face and attach it to a larger sheet of construction paper. Cut out colorful facial features and attach them to the face to create your own moon face. Use contrasting colors to set the facial features, face and background apart.
