Nautical Wedding Napkin Rings

Beach, nautical, and sea themes are popular wedding themes which are also fun. Whether you’re actually at the beach, or not, it’s exciting to decorate with shells, decorate with colors of blue and white, or red and white, and choose a flowing wedding gown that fits in with the theme. Sand, shells, and similar things, are plentiful and don’t cost a lot of money, so you’ll have no trouble creating beautiful tables for the wedding reception. Down to the last detail, the tables will look spectacular. And, for the napkin rings, a cute idea is to make little floatation rings for the napkins. They little lifesavers are cheap, easy to make, and quite adorable.

Wooden drapery rings are perfect for making the tiny lifesavers. If you can find them in the color of white, perfect, but if not, buy brown ones and paint them white. Lay the rings out on newspaper, spray one side, allow to dry, then spray the other side.

When the paint has dried use a red, blue, or other color of marker, to draw four lines around each ring. These should be spaced evenly around the ring and you should use just one color for each ring. Instead of a marker you can also glue on short pieces of narrow, satin ribbon to make the lifesaver stripes.

Use a fine-tip marker to write a phrase, the couple’s names, or another message on each lifesaver. Or, use tiny rubber stamps to stamp on the message. Another choice is to use the tiniest of stickers – you’ll find these at craft stores – to make the words.

If you want, you can further embellish each floatation ring by tying on a short piece of small-diameter roping, to use as the handle for the lifesaver. After you’re finished making the rings, just slide one onto each napkin at the table.

Not only are the tiny lifesavers cute as napkin rings but they’re also lovely little party favors. Guests can hang the napkin rings onto key rings when the wedding reception is over.

You can make other things with the floatation rings, too. Make stripes on each one but don’t write on them. Stack these up, glue them together, and you have tiny bud vases. Or, stack them up, write a name down the outside of the stack, and use them as place markers. Or, just lay them, here and there on the table, to make table tossers. The tiny lifesavers are perfect for any wedding with a beach or sea theme.
