LG Optimus V Review

I’ve owned this phone for six months and I’d like to go over some of the pros, cons, and specs of this smartphone. With all the phones on the market choosing one can be difficult this guide should make your choice a little easier. Functionality and affordability makes this smartphone one of my favorites by far. Without further ado here’s my review for the LG Optimus V from Virgin Mobile.

Specs:

Carrier: Virgin Mobile

Operating system: Android Froyo 2.2

QWERTY: Virtual QWERTY Keyboard

Camera: 3.0 megapixels

CPU: 600 MHZ processor

Display: 3.2 inch display 320 x 480 pixel touchscreen display

Weight: 4.6 oz

Internal Memory: 170MB

External Memory: Micro SD up to 32GB

Talk time: 6 hours

Standby time: Up to 7 days

Pros: The Virtual QWERTY keyboard is a plus it takes some getting used to, but in my opinion it’s much better than the normal QWERTY keyboard. There’s a program installed when you get the phone called SWYPE it helps you text faster I didn’t like it I prefer the virtual keyboard. The price of this phone makes it one of the most affordable smartphones right now at $150 you can’t go wrong. Lastly is the processing speed on this phone is really fast the 600 MHZ processor is very snappy. I was surprised that the touchscreen was very responsive although there are times it lags a little, but overall it’s not really noticeable.

Cons: While the specs say the battery life is about 6 hours realistically you get about 4 hours. The only way to get more battery life is to go in the options and turn down the brightness, turn off the GPS, vibration has to be turned off, and the email notification has to be switched to every hour to ensure maximum battery life. Another gripe about this phone is it doesn’t have a flash player which means no streaming video, flash games, or surfing any websites requiring flash. I wasn’t impressed with the video camera and the picture taking quality on this phone. The 3.0 megapixel camera takes average photos and video, but for a cellphone it’s understandable.

Overall: If I had to rate this phone 1 to 10 I would give it an 8.5. The LG Optimus V as an entry level smartphone may have some hang-ups, but overall it’s a pretty solid buy.
