Kate Middleton: Swayed to Stay Away from Cause Important to Her

By January 2012 Kate Middleton will announce the charitable organizations she intends on supporting. She and Prince William hold quality of life high for others high on their priority list. There’s one cause the Duchess of Cambridge is being advised not to support, however. The Blue Heart Campaign, which raises awareness about human trafficking, is linked with the United Nations. When it comes to government stipulations and royalty, it gets complicated. The U.N. is a neutral organization and one since Middleton is so close with the Queen, it’s been deemed inappropriate for her to publicly support them, Daily Mail reports.

Causes for Terminally Ill and Sick Children Near and Dear to William and Kate’s Heart

William and Kate make supporting charitable causes their number one priority in the U.K.. They especially aim for charities that promote a better life for the terminally ill and children afflicted with cancer or other serious health conditions.

Middleton became interested in Blue Heart when Lady Natasha Rufus Issacs and Lavinia Brennan, who are behind the fashion label, Beulah, told the Duchess about their visit to India on human trafficking. She was all for being part of the cause, but since the U.N. was involved, protocol called for a member of the British Royal family to reconsider making it a focal interest.

In government and monarchy, there’s a fine line crossed easily in good causes to support. Even the likes of Prince William and Kate Middleton will have their frustrating run-ins with what they can and can’t do. Following royal protocol has its disadvantages.
