Intimate Inspirations

The King James Bible tells a beautiful and often tragic story of the Jewish people and of the beginnings of Christianity. Aside from religious standpoints, the King James Bible offers its readers many verses of inspiration to aid in dealing with our current situations. Here are a few of my favorite and how they have applied for me.

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” Psalm 32:1
There have been many things in my life I have quite honestly, messed up, made the wrong decision, or simply failed to act. For years I carried those memories around with me. Never forgiving myself, never letting myself forget where I had failed. Learning to forgive myself, not excuse my actions, but acknowledging I had failed and forgiving myself as I would forgive someone else was the greatest thing I have ever done. I hadn’t realized I was my own prisoner until I set myself free. While it is always wise to forgive others…it is imperative to forgive ourselves.

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10
Growing up, I had a hard life living with parents who were all to eager to inform my sister and I we were not wanted. Talk about feeling lost. Years passed and I always felt lost, inadequate, and frankly, shocked if someone seemed interested in me or my life. I fell into the wrong crowd and drugs in my early teens which continued through my mid 20’s. But this simple verse of 15 words inspired me. Though my parents and family may not count me as their own, I have been found by my Shepherd, and I now am no longer lost, I finally belong to someone.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
Fear was a big issue with me when I was growing up. I never measured up to familial expectations, I knew no one cared for me, life was scary. When I came to know Jesus and our Father, I learned to let go of that fear. Trusting the Lord to help with decisions, learning uprightness from reading His word, inspires me with confidence to continue through life.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” Jeremiah 29:11
Dealing with my childhood left me feeling like there was no God, or that He had forgotten me. Jeremiah assures me God has good plans and good thoughts for me and God wishes me no evil. This helped me to look for the good from God rather than focus on the bad things in my life.

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11
What could be more comforting than to know the Savior has been born and fulfills all promises given us in the Bible. It is a reminder to me daily to be thankful for what I have, grateful for what I have survived, and a guide for whom I should strive to become.

Thank you for reading. I hope the verses I have chosen also inspire you to remember we are never alone. We have the strength within ourselves to persevere and through forgiving ourselves we allow ourselves to learn and grow from our experiences.
