A cold winter night,
Headlights bobbing along a snowy highway;
Thoughts of family sitting in the fireplace light,
Race through my mind everyday.
Christmas lights hang from the house,
Lighting the way for my wayward self;
This night reminds me to keep my loved ones close,
Rather than push them away, onto some forgotten shelf.
Knocking on the front door, my heart skips a beat,
With memories of music filling the house;
And with the sound of approaching feet,
I look up, and all my fears are doused.
Family, friends, the smells of Christmas dinner,
These familiar sights bring joy to my heart;
And as I see the lights on the Christmas tree shimmer,
All doubts and fear seem to part.
