Ghost Hunters Episode Review: Well of Horror

Synopsis: The TAPS team investigates the Shanley Hotel in New York, where 5 children reportedly died; including a girl who fell into the well. The investigation is followed by a trip to Fort Niagara near Niagara Falls.

What I liked about this episode: I was actually pretty impressed with Jason’s daughter Haily, who was brought along as a guest investigator. At first, I thought they added her just to remind people he was a family man. But, considering this was her first investigation (at least on film), she handled herself pretty well. I think I would rather see her than some of the other guests they bring on the show.

Of the two investigations, the trip to Fort Niagara was my favorite. I loved hearing some of the history of that old fort and the fact there were at least several dozen people buried on the property did make the claims it was haunted a little more believable.

What I didn’t like about this episode: Even with Jason’s phantom shirt tug getting caught on film, the evidence they collected at both locations was limited at best. I’m not a big fan of audio evidence because it’s too easy to hear a common noise and, wanting it to be a voice, turn the noise into words. And, while I always like the flashlight test, I do still have some doubts about whether or not there’s some sort of trick involved with that.

I think the best evidence they caught was the movement in the one window of the Shanley Hotel. But, even in that case, I think they dropped the ball a little bit. We are shown Jason and Grant in the lower part of the hotel and Adam in the truck. But, where were Steve, Haily and Tango? If you don’t account for their whereabouts, it still leaves some doubt.

Final Opinion: This was an OK episode. But, like so many recent episodes from this series, it’s one that isn’t very memorable.
