First Day of Fall

End of Summer: The First Day of Fall

The first day of Fall arrived with nary a sound.
Except of an acorn falling from a neighboring tree on the ground.
An observant squirrel scurries over to pick the acorn up.
Aware that food gathering days will soon lead to a winter tough.

The grass once a deep green now has more patches of brown.
Harvest time has arrived since fruits and vegetables are weighing the plants down.
I grab my basket and to start picking the produce yield.
I notice some stripped corn stalks and empty cucumber plants greet me in the field.

Inspite of the sight, basket packing is going well on this first day of fall.
I return to the house with basket overlowing and proclaim this to be the best harvest of all.
