FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 1 RUNNING BACK WRAPUP

Chris Johnson: 9 carries for 24 yards along with 6 catches for 25 yards. Johnson was understandably rusty but at least in PPR leagues he was good enough. With Matt Hasselbeck doing good things in the passing game, pressure will be a bit less on Johnson that originally thought.

LeSean McCoy: 15 carries for 122 yards with 1 TD along with 2 catches for 15 yards and 1 TD. McCoy will never get 20 carries a game like most running backs but he makes his touches count in a big way. The very best PPR running back in fantasy football outside of Ray Rice and Arian Foster.

Steven Jackson: 2 carries for 56 yards and 1 TD. Say this for Jackson. At least he netted a long TD before he took a seat. He was diagnosed with a strained right quad which is a tough injury. Count on him sitting out at least next week.

Carnell Williams: 19 carries for 91 yards along with 6 catches for 49 yards. Williams is a must have for Jackson owners and he showed he still has something to offer. Injuries has wrecked his last three seasons but he is still young enough to be an asset.

Fred Jackson: 20 carries for 112 yards along with 1 catch for 5 yards. I love Jackson because he always gives a good effort with little fanfare. He can catch the football too and CJ Spiller is no threat to him right now.

Jamaal Charles: 10 carries for 56 yards and 1 fumble along with 5 catches for 9 yards and 1 TD. It was a uneven performance for Charles who didnt get to run much since they fell behind so badly. Also he fumbled again which has been an issue in his career. Look for a big game next time out.

Michael Turner: 10 carries for 100 yards and 1 fumble along with 3 catches for 40 yards. The catches were a big surprise and Turner made the most of his limited catches.

Matt Forte: 16 carries for 68 yards along with 5 catches for 90 yards and 1 TD. This guy always knows how to start the season strong. Just check out all of his opening game performances throughout his career. He plays the Marshall Faulk role in Mike Martz’ offense and so expect plenty of runs and catches all season.

Jahvid Best: 21 carries for 72 yards along with 4 catches for 42 yards. Best is strictly a PPR guy as his running has been nothing special.

LeGarrette Blount: 5 carries for 15 yards. Just an ugly game here. Didnt get much of a chance though so hold the criticisms.

Maurice Jones-Drew: 24 carries for 97 yards and 1 TD. Yeah his knee seems to be all right.

Peyton Hillis: 17 carries for 57 yards along with 6 catches for 30 yards. Once again Hillis is doing it all. Sure there were no TD’s but the overall like was 2010-ish. Also Montario Hardesty only got 5 carries so dont worry about him losing work.

Cedric Benson: 25 carries for 121 yards and 1 TD along with 1 catch for 2 yards. Benson is the definition of a workhorse and he showed it today. Those in standard leagues should enjoy.

Ray Rice: 19 carries for 107 yards and 1 TD along with 4 catches for 42 yards and 1 TD. I admit I drool over Rice and so should you. Someone picked him over Adrian Peterson in my money league draft and I was all right with it. Sitting on a monster season.

Rashard Mendenhall: 12 carries for 45 yards and 1 fumble. The offensive line is awful in Pittsburgh once again which has me worried a bit about Mendenhall.

Joseph Addai: 8 carries for 39 yards along with 2 catches for 13 yards. Going to be a tough season for Addai as he will be facing 8-man fronts all season.

Ben Tate: 24 carries for 116 yards and 1 TD and 1 fumble. Impressive outing for Tate who the team was very high on last preseason. We all know how that ended up. Anyway ride this out until Foster gets back.

Ahmad Bradshaw: 13 carries for 44 yards and 1 TD along with 1 catch for 10 yards. The offensive line is in transition and it showed. Thank goodness he got the TD or else Bradshaw’s day would have been disgusting. Lets hope it gets better.

Tim Hightower: 24 carries for 50 yards and 1 TD along ith 3 catches for 25 yards. Hightower didnt run the ball well but he hit pay dirt and caught a few passes. He looks like the rare workhorse back and since he can catch the football, Hightower could be looking at a nice value campaign.

Mike Tolbert: 12 carries for 35 yards and 1 TD along with 9 catches for 58 yards and 2 TD. WHAT A GAME! I picked up Tolbert late in my draft thinking he would get the goal-line work and since he can catch the football. Cha-Ching!

Ryan Matthews: 12 carries for 45 yards along with 3 catches for 73 yards. Matthews is a bum in my mind and the fact Tolbert will get the TD chances make him garbage in my book.

Adrian Peterson: 16 carries for 98 yards along with 2 catches for 6 yards. Peterson ran well but when he doesnt score it almost feels like he didnt do much. Nonsense. The guy is great.

DeAngelo Williams: 12 carries for 30 yards along with 1 catch for 6 yards. Again its only one game but Williams still doesnt look like he has his old burst. Use him as a backup until he proves otherwise.

Beanie Wells: 18 carries for 90 yards and 1 TD along with 4 catches for 12 yards. Encouraging game for Wells who showed what he can do when all is right. The catches were a bonus but dont count on those.

Frank Gore: 22 carries for 59 yards along with 3 catches for 19 yards. There was not a whole lot happening here with Gore but he will be just fine.

Marshawn Lynch: 13 carries for 33 yards along with 2 catches for 14 yards. This guy shouldnt be within shouting distance of your roster.
